‘Start with a skein’ SWAP: Pack 1

I’ve been enjoying working on my hiking wardrobe as part of the Artisan’s Square SWAP (and I’ve been slack about posting updates as I need to take some photos).  Progress has been a little low, mainly because most of the designs are RTW knock-offs that need a fair bit of drafting.  Then there are the 2 convertible pants which both have 7-8 zippers each: 1 fly, 2 welt, 2 separating, 2 invisible and extra pocket zipper.

In between, I’ve been working on easier, everyday garments to keep myself sane.    I’ve followed the same rules as the SWAP because it helped me combine colours and prints.  My colour scheme was off-white, blue and orange.  Probably spurred on by this skein of wool that I want to weave into a scarf.  So I’m calling the wardrobe “Start with a skein” as it is kind of in the same vein as “Start with a scarf” from the Vivian Files – only the scarf is only in the idea stage!

So here is the first pack in Off-white.  This pack is a little bland, but it works really well with the rest of the items.

Linen Jacket

This was the Lekala 4162 pattern that I reviewed in my previous post.  Made from linen and lined with a baby blue silk satin.

Lace Top

The pattern is KwikSew 2694 which I have made before.  For this top, I used a scallop edged stretch lace and cut the pieces so the neckline and hems were edged with the scallops.  The background is an off-white with shades of blue and brown in the floral print.

Linen Pants

Made from the same linen as the jacket.  The pants are self-drafted from my trouser block with the following changes/features

  • Wide contoured waistband, incorporating most of the back waist darts
  • Straight to slightly wide leg
  • Jeans style front pockets with pocket stay
  • Back welt pockets
